Wilhelm Wagenfeld (1900-90) was a leading German industrial designer during the Twentieth Century. Following his training as a silversmith he went to study at the Bauhaus school in Weimar from 1923-25. While there he specialised in metalwork and is famous for his lamp designs that are quintessential Bauhaus. He later became a freelance designer but suffered persecution during the 1930s for refusing to support the Nazis. He produced many designs for many German companies and is well known for his glass designs for WMF. An important figure in the history of Twentieth Century design, his work is held in museums worldwide.
