Ian Godgrey (1942-92) was a London-based potter who was also a teacher of ceramics at Camberwell School of Art. He played an important role in the development of hand building and sculptural forms in British ceramics during the 1960s and 190s. Many of his forms are highly imaginative with fantastical birds and animals a particula favourite. He was also influenced by archeological finds and ancient ritual forms and incorporated those influences into his designs.
