Stoneware octagonal vase by leading West German ceramicist Horst Kerstan. Subtle temoko glaze in shades of brown with a slight purple iridescence. Signed to the base and dated 1979.
Excellent used condition. Minor pit to glaze on one facet.

Horst Kerstan (1941-2005) was a leading ceramicist in West Germany in the latter part of the Twentieth Century. Inspired by Chinese ceramic traditions he brought a rigour to form and glazing but with a distinctly modern take on ceramic objects. He specialised in wood fired glazing with produces rich and subtle effects on a pot. He is a leading figure in German ceramics.
