Margarete Schott thickly potted stoneware vase with blue glaze withj red/purple highlights. Studio mark to the base below the glaze.

Excellent condition.

Margarete Schott (1911-2004) was a German ceramicist based in Darmstadt. She trained at the Werkkunstschule in Darmstadt with Theodor Schroeder from 1947-50. From there she went to spend some time in England at Crowan Pottery in 1951-3. She then returned to Germany where she taught ceramics, focusing in particular on glaze effects. She set up her own studio in Darmstadt in 1962 and made pots there until her death in 2004. She is best known for her subtle and beautiful glazes.
