Horst Kerstan unique spherical ceramic vase with brown glaze and leaf pattern, West Germany. Signed and dated 1979. It also has the studio stamp. This is an important piece by Kerstan.

Horst Kerstan (1941-2005) was a leading ceramicist in West Germany in the latter part of the Twentieth Century. Inspired by Chinese ceramic traditions he brought a rigour to form and glazing but with a distinctly modern take on ceramic objects. He specialised in wood fired glazing with produces rich and subtle effects on a pot. He is a leading figure in German ceramics.
