One of the most important of all Scandinavian ceramics. First designed in the 1930s these so-called split jugs (because of the spout/handle design) came in two sizes, this is the smaller size. A Twentieth Century icon.

Eva Staehr-Nielsen (1911-76) was one of the most influential Scandinavian ceramicists. She joined the Saxbo studio in Denmark in 1932 after Gunnar Nylund left for Rörstrand. This had been set up at the end of the 1920s by Natalie Krebs amd Gunnar Nylund in what had previously been Patrick Nordstrom's studio. It was to become one of the most important independent studios for Scandinavian ceramics with leading designers like Axel Salto, Jais Nielsen, Hugo Liisberg as well as Staehr-Nielsen all producing designs for them. She stayed with the studio until its closure in 1968 when Krebs retired After then she produced a number of designs for Royal Copenhagen but its her Saxbo pieces that are the most sought after. Prices have risen considerably in the last five years. Her work is held in the National Museum in Stockholm, The British Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
