An imposing Kraka vase for Orrefors by Sven Palmqvist. The subtle mix of blue and amber glass is set off by an astonishing array of thousands of internal bubbles set in a net of colour. The vase is fully signed to the base: "Orrefors Kraka no 411 Sven Palmqvist".
Originally made from 1944 to 1972 each Kraka vase was individually numbered. Only 561 Kraka pieces carry such a number. This one, #411 can be dated from records to 1959.
The vase is in excellent used condition and is an original Kraka piece and not one of the later ones by Orrefors that carry different markings to the base.
Card payments accepted.
Sven Palmqvist (1906-84) worked for Orrefors in Sweden from 1941 to 1971. As well as producing etched glass of high quality in the 1940s he went on to design a number of ranges often deploying new glass techniques such as the Kraka, Fuga and Ravenna series. He was a major figure in the development of Swedish glass.
