Unusual gilt brooch in black and white enamel by Aksel Holmsen, Norway c 1960s. The design is a guilloche enamel leaf in white on a black swirl. There is some tarnish on the back but the brooch is in exccellent vintage condition with no damage to the enamel. The back is stamped with Norway, Sterling, maker's mark and 925S.
Aksel Holmsen trained with David-Andersen from 1889 before establishing his own workshop in Oslo. His son Ivar joined the company in 1942 and took over the company in 1950. The company, which closed in 1971, produced filigree as well as modernist enamelled and plain silver jewellery.
