A fabulous, very large brooch by Frank Juhls with 18 pendent discs which move and shimmer when worn. The discs are attached to a framework of circles in twisted rope design. The width and height of the brooch are c 9 cm.

The brooch is in excellent vintage condition with minor tarnish. It is stamped Kautokeino F. Juhls 830S (a continental silver grade). Pictured on p 102 of New Design in Jewelry, Donald J Willcox, 1970.

Frank (1931 - ) and Regine (1939 - ) Juhls, a German and Danish couple, set up their silversmithy in Kautokeino, northern Norway, in 1959. It was the first silver jewellery worshop in this remote area of Finnmark. Their daughter, Sunniva Juhls, now runs the company. The Juhls were awarded the Finnmark County Culture Prize in 2009 for their work with Sami culture.
