Bertil Vallien pink miniature glass bowl with multi-coloured specks and serrated rim for Boda Afors, Sweden 1970s. Signed: Boda Afors B. Vallien 7.
Vallien produced a range of miniature bowls and vases for Boda Afors in the 1970s. This shape does not feature in the calalogue from that time. There is a vase with this colour and pattern but not a bowl. This piece is possibly a test-piece that was not put into production.
Bertil Vallien (1938 -) is one of the greatest living glass designers from Sweden. Best known for his sandcast glass sculptures, he designed a full range of items from tablewares to art glass to one-off commissions. Highly expressionist in style with often coded meanings his work epitomises the postmodern stylistic playfulness that came to prominence in the latter decades of the twentieth century. He has exhibited his work worldwide.
