Robert Jefferson (1929-98) was a British ceramics designer. He started his career teaching ceramics at Stoke-on-Trent College of Art. He was asked to establish a studio at Poole Pottery in Dorset in 1958 and to develop it as an art pottery studio within the factory based on the Scandinavian model. He designed both art pottery, what became the early studio pieces after 1962 as well as designs for tablewares. Early studio pieces were often experimental with some going on to be developed into standard production pieces and others remaining as one-off designs. Jefferson left Poole in 1966 and established his own pottery and continued to make ceramics for the rest of his career. He is one of Britain's leading mid-century ceramic designers along with Jessie Tait and Colin Melbourne who also started their careers in Stoke on Trent.
