Saara Hopea. Bowl, blue glass and clear base, model SH 117, signed S. Hopea Nuutajärvi Notsjö -64.
Saara Hopea (1925-84) worked closely with Kaj Franck at Nuutajävi-Notsjö and produced some notable designs such as her spotted glass “Panther” vase. She produced a range of other glass objects that are now highly sought after. Like many designers of homewares in this period she took inspiration from the earlier work of the Bauhaus in Germany and worked with many materials including glass, metal, textiles and jewellery.
