Guy Sydenham (1916-2005) joined Poole Pottery as a thrower in 1931 and, apart from army service during the WWII, he worked there until he retired in 1977. He was the main thrower in the Poole Studio that ran from 1962-66 under Robert jefferson. In 1966 he began experimenting with his own designs. There were to become the range of studio ceramics known as Atlantis that were in limited production from 1969-77. Sydenham also worked at his own studio first on Long Island and later on Green island in Poole harbour (from 1960-87). His work at Poole and at his own studio, often influenced by maritime and coastal motifs, is now gaining recognition for its unique style.
