Swedish, hand-knotted, rya rug in russet and copper colours, 1960s

This hand-knotted, woollen rya rug was made in Sweden in the 1960s. The soft, deep pile is a warm combination of russets, browns and burnt orange.

Measuring 112 x 200 cm, it is in good used condition. Minor wear from use.

Thick pile rya rugs are a speciality of Sweden. Originally used as bed covers because of their warmth they have developed into being used more commonly as rugs.
