Robert Stewart (1924-95) was an artist and designer who spent much of his career teaching at Glasgow School of Art. He is best known for his innovative textile designs made during the 1950s and associated with the Contemporary look of that decade. He was a contemporary of the other leading textile designers of that time Lucienne Day and Tibor Reich who helped to shape the style of the 1950s. Many of his designs were produced for Libertys, Donald Bothers and Edinburgh Tapestry Company. He designed tapestries for Glasgow Cathedral and Strathclyde University.
